Globe Explained explains the news that shapes everyday life: discoveries in science and space, our changing climate, health and medicine, the technology we rely on, and the consumer issues that affect what we buy and how we stay safe.

We started with a simple observation. Important stories are often told in a language only specialists understand, or they get lost in the noise. We bring them back to three questions: what happened, why it matters and what it means for you.

What we cover

Our science and space pages follow new research, telescope images and missions, and explain them without jargon. In our environment section we look at weather, climate and the planet as it changes, seen from the ground and from orbit. Health covers medical research, public health and the safety of the products we use.

In technology, we write about the tools we use every day and the risks that come with them, from data privacy to online security. Our consumer section brings you product recalls, scam warnings and your rights as a customer. And in world news, we look at people and events around the globe.

Six languages

We publish in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Italian and Chinese, so that the same story can reach you in the language you read most comfortably.

How we work

We work from primary material: announcements from space agencies and observatories, studies published in scientific journals, and information released by public health, safety and consumer authorities. Before a story goes online, its numbers, dates, names and quotations are checked against that material. When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Our corrections policy explains how, and our editorial policy sets out the standards we follow.

Independence

Globe Explained is published by Globe Explained. We are not affiliated with any government, agency, company or political party, and the fact that we write about an organisation never means that it endorses us. The site is funded by advertising, which is kept separate from our editorial decisions.
